Enjoying the Istanbul Weather - 11 June 2012 12:37

With the British weather looking as depressing as its recent economy, many of us are looking to travel away and getaway from the depressions of general life the media is happy to point out to us each and every day in the news. The best cure for releasing stress and curing the blues is visiting somewhere new and exciting the adventure bug within us.

Istanbul is set to be a hotspot for tourists this year with the Turkish lira currency in its favour, and also the wonderful weather it is guaranteeing its visitors.Full of sunshine, the average Istanbul temperatures in June are high 20's making Istanbul weather perfect for exploring while topping up the suntan.

With so much on offer in Istanbul from trips down the Bosporus, multiple palaces, museums, restaurants bars, no wonder Istanbul is a major choice for people looking to take in new cultures.

Visiting Istanbul is as diverse as visiting the whole of Turkey. It’s a city split in two. On Asia, the other Europe.. .it gives a sense of mystery and adventure with the comfort and system of Europe.

A visit to Istanbul really has two contrasts. You can enjoy a Nargile hubbly bubbly in one Sultan Ahmet, or go and enjoy a trendy cocktail in one of the glamorous and exclusive shopping malls in Nisantasi.

Not many people realise this, but Istanbul also has a swimming scene, with its own beaches and pools in hotels; making it unique for summer time. People can enjoy a summer holiday environment and also take in the buzz of the most captivating city in the world

A foodies guide to Istanbul: - 06 May 2011 16:34
With a city as big as Istanbul it may seem hard to decide or know where is best to go. Pure Turkey uses their local knowledge and expertise to provide a foodies guide to Istanbul:

  1. 1.  Start the day off with a traditional Turkish brunch at Guzelcehisar (available Sat & Sun 10am-2pm, www.guzelcehisar.com), on the hilltop of the Anadolu Hisari neighbourhood where you can enjoy halloumi as well as Turkish spicy sausage and bread. This could tie in well with a visit to the Anadolu Hisari Anatolian castle – which houses the oldest Turkish architectural structure built in Istanbul.

2.  Head to riverside cafe Sutis (www.sutis.com) in Emirgan, one of the finest neighbourhoods of Istanbul on the banks of Bosphorous. Whilst sampling the local delights, take in great views of the impressive Bosphorous bridge. After your meal, you can stroll through the Emirgan Park with its Ottoman pavilions or visit the Sakip Sabanci Museum (open daily between 09:30-16:30 except Mondays ) – housing a large collection of artifacts and art dating back to the 6th century.

3.  Enjoy a flower lunch at the sumptuous Leb-i Derya Rumeli mansion (www.lebiderya.com/rumeli) in Taksim Square, the centre of Istanbul. Delicacies include rose petal coated ricotta, violet mozzarella and avocado salad and lilac pancakes with marinated salmon.

4.  For the best desserts in Istanbul, go to Konak Pastanesi (www.galatakonakcafe.com), a patisserie cafe with a vast selection of home-made cakes including profiteroles with caramel sauce, fruit tartlets and mille-feuilles. Enjoy your dessert on the roof terrace to enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view of Istanbul - which includes the Sultanahmet skyline, down the Bosphorus and over the Golden Horn.

5.  Get a taste of French cuisine at Fransiz Sokagi (meaning French Street), Istanbul’s answer to ‘Rue Francaise’ which reflects the French influence in the city - dating back from the 19th century - with tented buildings, cobbled streets, street musicians, cafés, bars and art centres. Once here, just take a seat and just soak up the atmosphere and French delicacies.
6.  Try out some fresh fish at Sabattin Amacanin Yeri restaurant in Sultan Ahmet – tucked away in the backstreets of old Istanbul. The fish available on the menu is caught on the day and could include sea bass, swordfish and snapper amongst others.
7.  For more traditional fare, head over to the Sultan Admet Kofteci in Sultan Ahmet, Old Istanbul, for a taste of Kofte from the first kofte house in Istanbul.

8.  Start the night at Leb-i Derya Kumbaraci (www.lebiderya.com/lebiderya) with a Turkish cheese platter (including walnut-tulum, cumin gouda and goat’s cheese) or an appetizer plate (including pomegranate flavoured bulgur pesto, sun-dried tomato feta cheese puree and roasted eggplant cream) and toast the night with one of their cocktails including forbidden apple, tiramisu martini or a milky way.

9.  If you want to keep enjoying the Turkish nightlife, check out the award-winning 360bar, set in a penthouse perched on a 19th century apartment with 360 views of Istanbul. By day it’s a restaurant offering a modern take on the Turkish mezze and by night it’s a bar/club offering 360 special cocktails.

Pure Turkey offers holidays throughout Turkey from 21 UK departure points including all main London airports (Gatwick, Heathrow, and Stansted), Luton, Belfast, Birmingham, Bournemouth, Bristol, Cardiff, Doncaster, Exeter, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Humberside, Leeds, Manchester, and Newcastle.  Frequent services run all year round.
